Last day on the slopes, we say adieu to gondolas, 3 course meals, friendly french people and below zero temperatures. All in all, if you disregard pants tearing whilst on the slope (and telling your better half to fix it with a handy needle and thread in the girls rest room), almost forgetting your back pack on a mountain, experiencing a complete white out while you’re 2300m high up and getting lost for those 10 minutes, it was a really good trip. It snowed nearly all week, so the pistes were nice and powdery and if you were to fall, you wouldn’t break your neck. And what also amazed me were the snowboarders – they all looked the part. Male or female, you have to look like Shaun White. It doesn’t matter if it’s your first day or you’re an instructor, you have to look good. Every one is kitted out, from colourful Burton boards, trippy Oakley goggles, patterned Quicksilver jackets to jet black Vans boots and comfy Gortex gloves. I do hope that one day I’ll see Fat Gold on the mountains and in the Meribel stores, it’s just a matter of time.

We will make our way back to the tiny rock tomorrow and hope that we don’t encounter any freak weather or nasty turbulence. If you haven’t been boarding I do suggest you try it out. Not for the faint hearted or for people that are afraid of heights, but it certainly is a blast.

See you on the rock, and if you happen to be there, come over to Neue on Saturday the 23rd at SoBar.

Stay gold.
